Civil Service Examination (IAS) Syllabus
Preliminary Examination Paper - I (200 marks) Duration: Two hours
- Current events of national and international importance.
- History of India and Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
- Indian Policy and Governance - Constitution, Political System, panchayati raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development -Sustainable Development, Poverty, Employment, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
- General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization General Science.
Note 1: Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper- II) will be tested through passage.
Note 2: The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.
Note 3: It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he/ she does not appear in both the papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination.

Mains Examination
The objective of the Civil Services (Main) Examination is to select candidates for the various A-Grade services and posts of the Union Government. To achieve this U.P.S.C. has mentioned that the main examination is intended to assess the overall intellectual traits and depth of understanding of candidates rather than merely the range of their information and memory. So, to evaluate candidates this trait, the main examination will consist of written examinations on various subjects. Written examination will consist of 9 papers, which carries total 2000 marks. In Main Examination General Studies papers carries 600 marks (Two papers), along with two optional subjects which carries 600 marks each (Two papers for first & second optional subjects, total four papers), plus one Essay paper comprises 200 marks. So the total marks of the Main Exam is 2000 marks. Moreover candidates must qualify the Compulsory papers for evaluation of their Mains Optional papers, Hence Compulsory papers are qualifying in nature. The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking purpose.

Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination
Part I Written Examination carrying a maximum of 600 marks in the subjects as shown below.
Paper-I: General Ability Test (English, General Knowledge and Psychological Test) maximum marks: 200
Paper-II: Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) maximum marks: 200
Paper-III: Mathematics maximum marks: 200
Part II
Personality Test carrying a maximum of 200 marks in respect of only those candidates who are declared qualified on the results of written examination under Part I

Part-I WRITTEN EXAMINATION - (500 marks)
The candidates will take the written examination in two Papers, each Paper carrying a maximum of 250 marks. Each Paper will be of two hours duration.
Part-II Personality Test carrying 100 marks
Personality Test carrying 100 marks of such of the candidates who qualify on the results of the written examination.

Central Police Forces (CPF) Exam - Scheme & Syllabus
(i) Written Examination:
The written examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), and it comprises two papers. Paper I and Paper II.
Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence - 250 Marks
The questions in this paper will be of Objective (Multiple Answers) Type in which the questions will be set in English as well as Hindi.
Paper II: General Studies, Essay and Comprehension - 200 Marks
In this paper candidates will be allowed the option of writing the Essay Component in English or Hindi, but the medium of Précis Writing, Comprehension Components and other communications/language skills will be English only.
(ii) Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests:
Candidates who are declared qualified in the written examination will be summoned for Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests. Those candidates who meet the prescribed Physical Standards, specified in Appendix-VI, will be put through the Physical Efficiency Tests.

Combined Defence Services Examination
The Competitive examination comprises:
(a) Written examination as shown in para 2.
(B) Interview for intelligence and personality test (vide Part ‘B’ of this Appendix) of such candidates as may be called for interview at one of the Services Selection Centers.
